Motorola Droid RAZR With 16GB Only $199.99 At Verizon
The Motorola Droid RAZR is a big hit. The style and design is a marvel of modern engineering and the specs are right up there with the other high-end phones but for some the $299.99 price tag is just too much to handle. Well now Motorola and Verizon are bringing a less expensive 16GB version of the Droid RAZR to store shelves for only $199.99 with a two year contract.
The big question is why would anyone buy the 32GB version for $100 more just to get a 16GB microSD card? If you really need to have 32GB of memory on your phone you can simply head on over to Amazon and purchase a 16GB microSD card for as little as $8 and you can even get a 32GB microSD card for as little as $30. It just doesn’t make any sense. I understand why Verizon would want to sell a cheaper model of a product but why undercut one of your current products in the process? Apple can charge $100 more for an extra 16GB of memory because you don’t have any other choice if you want additional memory. With most Android devices you have the option to expand the memory with a microSD card so it doesn’t make sense to charge $100 more for something you can buy for $8.
Maybe Verizon will eventually phase out the 32GB model in the same manner they did with the Droid 2 after the Droid 2 Global was released with slightly improved specs. If the 32GB version doesn’t go away it would be difficult for me to find any reason to purchase it over the 16GB model. The only people who might opt for the 32GB version are those who are unaware of exactly how much a microSD card costs and would just assume that Verizon’s pricing is the best deal they’re going to get.
Here’s my suggestion if you are looking into buying a Motorola Droid RAZR, go with the 16GB model and if you need extra space buy a microSD card on Amazon or eBay. It could save you up to $90 dollars over buying the 32GB model directly from Verizon.
