Games are a dime a dozen in the Android Market these days but that means finding a high quality one is harder than ever. Going in and searching for a game can be overwhelming at times and not every game you pick up is going to be a winner no matter how good the user ratings are. To make things worse, many of the games with recognizable titles fall to live up to the expectations. Captain America Sentinel of Liberty is not one of those games. Its challenging enough to keep grown-ups interested and easy enough for young children to pick up and play without a struggle.

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty is a classic side-scrolling action fighter with high quality graphics and simple, straight forward commands that make game-play both fun and easy. Guide the good Captain through 24 levels of intense action as you try to stop Red Skull and HYDRA from using powerful weapons to gain momentum during World War II.

The HD graphics are stunning and are what make Captain America Sentinel of Liberty stand out from other side scrolling games in the Market. The game just really looks good and the graphics and movements of the characters are smooth and fluid and compliment the commands perfectly.

Simply put, this game is just fun to play and isn’t that what we’re really looking for when we’re playing a game? The only issue I had was that the game stuttered and froze quite a bit on my old Galaxy S Vibrant but those issues were corrected when playing the game on a Galaxy S II with a dual-core processor. So I guess more power will help but if you’re only running on one core you still can play the game well (might’ve just been my phone).

Captain America Sentinel of Liberty is available in the Android Market for $2.99.

The Galaxy Note is here. That huge phone with the massive 5.3″ touchscreen display is finally on sale in America at AT&T stores for only $299.99 with a two year contract. Samsung is really stretching the limits of what a phone is with the Galaxy Note thanks to its generous proportions and the included stylus. Whether you look at it as a big phone or a small tablet the one thing you’ll notice is the all around quality of the Galaxy Note. It’s a really impressive device any way you slice it.

There’s two major reasons why the Samsung Galaxy Note is such an exemplary piece of technology; The 5.3″ HD Super AMOLED and the unique S Pen stylus. The massive crystal clear display is front and center and is quite possibly the most beautiful mobile display you’ll see today. It’s big, bright, crystal clear and as stunning as you’d expect from something called a HD Super AMOLED. The S Pen is Samsung’s new stylus technology which is looking to take the stylus into the future. Not only can you use the stylus to replace your finger but you can do simple commands that can do tasks such as taking a screenshot without having to put down your pen. The S Pen also offers you the ability to use your Galaxy Note as a small notepad for jotting down notes quickly without having to use the onscreen keyboard.

As I stated earlier, the Galaxy Note is a very impressive device. The size may turn off some people (like iPhone users who prefer little bitch screens) but it is definitely a phone that is worth trying out if you are in the market for a new phone from AT&T.

Most probably you have already heard the word “repeater”. But what is it? So the repeater is a device that amplifies signals and transfers them from one section of the cable to another. Let’s see what the mobile repeater is in this case.

The gsm repeater or a booster for the cell phone is a regular bi-directional antenna amplifier, which is used for gain of a weak signal of cellular operators, working at different frequencies.

Any company distributes its services through the operator base stations deployed over large areas. Where there are the antenna towers of the operator, there is a zone of the coverage.

However, any such area has places, called as “holes” and even “dead zones”. It is not an abnormal phenomenon. All is very simple and clear – the cell signal disappears in these areas. You can stay or even jump – the signal does not appear. Nevertheless, this is a fault of the mobile operator. But what to do when your house or country cottage is located in such place?

The problem of “dead zones” in cellular communication is more than relevant and there are many reasons of the disappearance of the cellular signal. That can be high-rise buildings that prevent the spread of the gsm signal in the city; forests and the remoteness of objects from the mobile base stations outside the city. The mobile booster solves the problem of “dead zones” easily.

Typically, the cell phone booster is installed indoors in houses, cottages and country houses, office centers, cafes, cellar and basement areas, remote objects where the signal level is insufficient or non-existent.

On the one side the mobile repeater is connected to external antenna which is installed on the roof or a wall of the building, on the other – an internal antenna. The external antenna receives the signal from the mobile base station of the operator; the mobile booster amplifies it and, using an indoor antenna in the “dead zone”, sends the amplified signal to the subscriber.

The cell phone repeater creates a proper space where the mobile signal level is sufficient for a cell phone.

And conversely, the internal antenna receives the signal from your Android phone and then passes it to the mobile booster that increases the signal to the required level. The amplified signal is sent by cable to the external directional antenna, and then forwarded to the mobile base station.

So after you install the mobile repeater the subscriber receives the high-quality connection in the house or office. At the same time the cell signal amplifier does not impose any restrictions on the number of subscribers that talk simultaneously and the cellular amplifier solve the problem of poor communication of all mobile operators who provide communication services.

You know that stupid show on MTV where they find bullies and put them in the ring against a trained MMA/UFC fighter so they can get a good old fashioned ass whoopin’ on national television? That needs to happen to Apple. Right. Fucking. Now.

Yes the world’s most valuable company is also the world’s biggest asshole company. For the past year or so, Apple has been trying to destroy Android by attacking hardware manufacturers such as Samsung and HTC with patent lawsuits ranging from the stupid to the utterly retarded. They’ve had mixed success with these lawsuits but that isn’t stopping them from continuing there attempt to eliminate Google from the mobile space all together. Just recently, Apple filed a lawsuit in California claiming that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus infringes on several of their patents which if upheld could result in sales of Google’s Android 4.0 phone to be halted.

While anyone with half a brain can tell that these patents don’t hold any water in the real world they still could cause a preliminary injunction to be placed on the Galaxy Nexus. The problem is that the U.S. Patent System is not based in the real world. In fact, the patent system in the U.S., particularly in regards to software, is a complete and total disaster. Take this for example, one of the patents is in regards to voice commands specific to Apple’s Siri virtually assistant software even though Google has had a voice search feature that predates Siri by at least two years. And Google is the one infringing right? Makes sense to me.

Apple is using the broken, shameful patent system as a weapon to stifle its competitions ability to succeed in the mobile space. Steve Jobs hated Android and wanted to destroy it because it claimed that they stole Apple’s ideas. The only problem is that a lot of what Apple did had already been done by RIM, Palm or any of the phones using Window’s Mobile. Apple took those ideas and, along with their own ideology of how a phone should work, released the original iPhone. Apple essentially took mobile phones to the next level by doing what their competitors were doing, only better. Now it is their goal to not allow anyone the opportunity to even try to do it better.

When you look at a company like Apple, the world’s most profitable company, and you can sense that there is a fear within, it’s sad really. In some ways they are right to fear Android since it has become the world’s most popular mobile operating system but on the other hand they’re still the world’s biggest handset manufacturer and they are still the world’s richest fucking company. You would think that they would realize that their success isn’t going to be threatened by Android as much as it will be threatened by their own lack of innovation. These lawsuits look more and more like a sign of internal weakness instead of an exercise in dominance.

No matter what the reasoning behind these lawsuits is they need to stop. Maybe the government will need to step in to say enough is enough and impose a freeze on all software related patents. That’s highly unlikely so here’s what I propose. Someone kicks the shit out of Apple. Google just received approval to go forward with their purchase of Motorola and the massive amount of patents that comes along with it. Samsung, HTC, LG and all the other Android handset manufacturer’s should band together and slap Apple with a string of lawsuits of their own. If all of these companies banded together they might be able to put a stop to Apple’s childish behavior. Otherwise we might need to contact Jeff Gillooly, Shawn Eckhardt and Shane Stant to attack Apple with a collapsible police baton just above the knee. Or maybe a quick pummeling by Nelson Muntz followed by a well timed “ha ha” will do the trick.

The point is that someone needs to take on this bully. Someone needs to punch them in the mouth so they taste their own blood for a change. Apple seems unwilling to stopping this bullshit so someone will have to emerge as Apple’s physical equal. Now that Google has Motorola in their back pocket it might be the perfect time to mount that offensive. Rip their fucking hearts out guys.

MetroPCS has some of the lowest priced unlimited wireless plans you’ll find on American shores and right now they have some of the best deals you’ll find on their Android phones. Honestly, this is one of the craziest sales that I’ve ever seen at MetroPCS and it’s even crazier when you realize that these prices don’t include any subsidies and you don’t have to sign up for a two year contract. Let’s take a look at some of the great deals on Android phones at MetroPCS.

Huawei M835 – $39.00 – This is about as entry-level as an Android phone is going to get but you do get a fair amount of features crammed into a small package. Did I mention that the Huawei M835 only costs $39? You can also pick up the special Tokidoki edition for $49.

HTC Wildfire S – $99.00 – The HTC Wildfire S is well known to most of us but not at this price. That’s a 3.2″ display, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and HTC’s legendary build quality for under $100. Crazy.

Samsung Admire – $59.00 – Alright I’m just gonna say it. This is the best deal I’ve seen in a long, long time. The Samsung Admire features a 3.5″ touchscreen display, 800MHz processor, a 3.2 megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. That’s an outrageous phone for only $59.

Samsung Galaxy Attain – $199.00 – This is the best Android phone on MetroPCS but it’s also the priciest of the bunch at a shade under $200. For that price you are getting a phone with a 3.5″ display, 1GHz processor, 3 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, 1.3 megapixel front camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and access to MetroPCS’ nationwide 4G LTE data network.

Those deals are great but MetroPCS’ plans also offer some incredible value. With unlimited plans ranging from $40-$60 there is always going to be the perfect plan for your price range and none of them will set you back all that much cash. This is the best deal in mobile right now since Republic Wireless isn’t taking any new members during its beta phase.

If you’re looking for a way to express your love for that special someone in your life then the I Love You Widget is just what you’ve been looking for. It’s simple to set up and customize and it even functions as a clock and provides a shortcut so you can easily call or text your sweetheart without having to go through any additional menus. With Valentine’s Day upon us the I Love You Widget is a quick and easy way to express your love on your Android phone or tablet.

As I indicated before, the I Love You Widget allows you to customize it to fit your needs. You can add pictures of both you and that special someone change the background color and design, change the clock widget, change the text size and, as I mentioned above, even assign a number to it so you can quickly contact your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, crush or mistress. By the way, if you have enough balls to put your mistress on your I Love You Widget then you probably have some serious cojones. You can also zoom and maneuver the photos you choose to fit properly into the given area. There’s a ton of options to make your widget as special and unique as the one you love. Too sappy? Even with all the options setting things up in the I Love You Widget is really easy and it only takes a minute or two to get your widget customized and up on your home screen for all to see.

It’s no secret that the cost of your wireless plan has been going up lately and while it’s obvious that the expansion of 4G data networks is part of the reason for the rise in costs it seems like there might be something more sinister at work here. Let’s look at it this way, T-Mobile offers the cheapest plans of the four major American wireless carriers. T-Mobile is also the only one of the four major carriers that doesn’t carry the iPhone.

Smartphones in general are the reason for the rise in costs but the iPhone and specifically the high price tag Apple has put on its ubiquitous device is a massive thorn in the sides of Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. The result is that each of these carriers is paying Apple a ton of money for each iPhone then turning around and cutting the price by around $450-500 for consumers who sign up for a contract. That’s a pretty big loss to take right off the bat for every iPhone that is sold.

I mean just yesterday, AT&T doubled their upgrade fee from $18 to $36 in an attempt to gouge more money out of their customers. Some of that has to do with network upgrades but a lot of it has to do with the subsidies that companies use as a method to draw in customers. As those subsidies rise so does the cost of your wireless plan. So why is the iPhone responsible for driving up the cost of wireless plans? The iPhone is the most expensive phone for the Wireless providers to purchase and along with it comes a hefty subsidy that makes it more attractive to consumers at $199.99 0r $299.99. There are Android phones that have high price tags as well but the iPhone is the most outrageously priced of these devices and thus the biggest reason for the price hikes.

Now you may be thinking that the success of the iPhone is the issue but that’s not really it. It basically boils down to the fact that Apple has tried to wrestle control away from the carriers as much as possible and part of that has been the retail price that they have been charging the carriers. What makes this harder to swallow is the fact that Apple is charging so much for an iPhone while the people who make these devices are being treated like absolute shit by Foxconn over in China. The cutthroat nature of one company is negatively effecting everyone who buys a cell phone. Nice.

Well actually not everyone is being effected. There are companies such as Simple Mobile, Virgin Mobile, Boost Mobile and MetroPCS who are offering low cost wireless plans without subsidies. That means that you’ll have to pay full price for a phone and those high prices are why so many Americans are scared off by these wireless providers. Here’s the thing though, if you pay full price for a phone and sign up for a lower cost plan you’ll actually end up saving hundreds of dollars over the life of the contract. T-Mobile offers a set of Value Plans that are essentially low priced plans without the phone subsidies (you pay a down payment and can finance the rest at 0% for $20 per month) that can save you a ton of money. Of course the most outrageous example of a low cost wireless company is Republic Wireless which offers a $20 per month unlimited plan.

All this proves that it is possible to lower the costs of our wireless plans and we don’t have to be bogged down the corporate greed that is behind these inflated prices. The problem, and Apple is aware of this, is that by actually selling the iPhone for $700 there is a good chance that a lot of consumers will try to find a lower priced option. Hiding the cost in your high priced plans gives off the perception that you’re paying less. Wrong.

Do us all a favor and switch to a T-Mobile Value Plan or over to one of the low cost providers I mentioned above and do away with the subsidised phones. You’ll save a ton of money and everybody I know likes saving a ton of money.

Stone Stacker is about as challenging a puzzle game as you’ll find in the Android Market today. The good news is that it is so challenging that you won’t be able to put it down. It almost seemed like the more frustrated I got the more and more I liked the game.

Stone Stacker is a new twist on puzzle games where you must stack different shaped stones on top of each other so that they don’t fall down. The first level is so simple that you instantly think that you’re going to waltz right through each level then you’ll hit the fourth level and you’re hooked. Each level takes thought and a steady hand to complete but that thinking and planning is what makes Stone Stacker such a joy. Other games in this genre such as Angry Birds or Stupid Zombies use a certain amount of luck to complete tasks but Stone Stacker relies solely on your mental abilities to tackle each level. Basically, you’ll be hard-pressed to pass a level without thinking your plan through and for that, I thank you.

If you’re not sure if Stone Stacker is for you then I suggest trying out the lite version before you pony up the $0.99 to get the full version in the Android Market. Or you could quit being such a cheap ass and just grab the full version from the start because I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy the hell out of this game. I really fell in love with it right from the start but maybe that’s just because I love a challenge (just ask the wife) or maybe its because this game kicks serious ass. That’s a ringing endorsement in case you were wondering.

Last year Research in Motion (RIM) released the BlackBerry Playbook, a seven inch tablet running a bespoke QNX operating system. It received relatively favourable reviews for the hardware and software, but the app marketplace has been a real hindrance to the growth of the Playbook`s user base. This is because it has been avoided by many developers who are content with promoting their wares via the Android Market or App Store for iOS. Now the new RIM CEO Thorston Heins has spoken about the first major update for the Playbook and how it will feature cross-compatibility with Android apps for the first time.

Playbook OS 2.0 will come with Runtime Android, which is essentially a service that will allow the tablet to emulate Android applications and hopefully open up a world full of hundreds of thousands of bite size programs which have so far been unavailable to owners.

Mr Heins did use his keynote speech at a conference for BlackBerry developers in Amsterdam this week to talk about the major updates, but did not go into much detail about the nuts and bolts of how Runtime Android will work. It seems likely that rather than opening up the entire Android Market back catalogue, the service will instead feature a selection of best-selling Android apps, with RIM taking a cut of the profits.

One of the major benefits of Android apps for tablets and smartphones is that they are cheap and plentiful, even if quality is not particularly consistent due to Google`s lenient application process. However, Android developers might like the idea of having their apps on a different platform, particularly since Mr Heins pointed out that 13 per cent of BlackBerry developers have earned at least $100,000 from projects developed for RIM devices. This is comparatively more than the average earnings of an Android developer, although there are far fewer teams working on apps for the Playbook tablet or BlackBerry smartphone, so all of this has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Android devices and the open source ethos of the operating system seems to be permeating other companies within the industry as this month also saw HP further explain its plans to expand the WebOS operating system. Like the Playbook OS this struggled to find its feet onboard a tablet known as the HP TouchPad and users were eventually promised Android app compatibility as a means of making up for the lack of software for the platform.

HP eventually cut its losses and sold off the remaining HP TouchPads at a discount price, as it had got to the point where you could not give them away as free gifts with mobile phones. However, it will be making WebOS an open source operating system in the same style as Android later in 2012. This is unlikely to worry Google, whose dominance seems unshakable, but it is an interesting move nevertheless.

It almost seems like Verizon is literally shitting Droid phones out these days. In the last few months we’ve seen the arrival of the Droid RAZR, the Droid RAZR (again, with 16GB), the Droid RAZR MAXX and now the newest member of the Droid family, the Motorola Droid 4. This phone may be the best QWERTY slider ever made but it is clear that both Verizon and Motorola have made the decision to push the latest Droid down a peg from its once lofty position atop the Android heap. That doesn’t mean that the Droid 4 is a bad phone, it most certainly is not, but it no longer commands the attention that it got when it brought Motorola and Android into another dimension back in 2009.

The Droid 4 takes a lot of its design queues from the current king of the Droid family, the Droid RAZR with its curved yet angular shape and darkened color scheme but Motorola made some sacrifices to get the Droid 4 in at a lower price point. The most obvious loss is the display which has been reduced to a 4-inch qHD Pentile LCD display that while good, doesn’t compare favorably with some of the newest screen’s out there today. Another sacrifice made in the Droid 4 can be found in the thickness of the device. This is not a RAZR by any stretch of the imagination. It would’ve been nice for Motorola to put a little more effort into making the Droid 4 a little bit more svelte and sexy.

Despite that, the Droid 4 is, as I mentioned earlier, probably the best QWERTY slider you’ll find these days. Not surprisingly, the keyboard is one of the highlights of this phone. It is the product of the continued progression that Motorola has made on every Droid phone to date and you can tell that this is an area that the design team put a lot of time and effort into perfecting. The Droid 4 is also a pretty speedy device with a 1.2GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM that allows it to easily digest anything you throw at it. Another positive, although nothing groundbreaking, is the high quality dual cameras that take some really great pictures.

The Motorola Droid 4 is available from Verizon for $199.99 with a two year contract or can be found at other online retailers like Cheapassphones.com ($149.99) for less.
